Presented herein are a robotic system that is configured for compounding and preparation of medications comprising non-hazardous drugs and a vented drug vial adapter. The robotic system comprises: a laminar flow cabinet; and at least one robotic arm. The vented drug vial adapter is designed to connect a drug vial to another component of a drug transfer system. The adapter comprises a hydrophobic filter that prevents passage of liquid while allowing air to pass through it and a vent hole to the atmosphere. The vent hole is located above the filter thereby allowing equalization of the internal pressure while preventing the drug from contaminating the atmosphere.

A syringe that is configured for use in a syringe pump. The syringe has a flange at the proximal end of a barrel and a sealing element at its proximal end. The sealing element has of 5 a disk shaped annular sealing assembly having a hole in its center through which a piston rod passes. The sealing assembly has an upper part and a lower part that are pressed together to hold an O-ring that seals around the piston rod. The sealing assembly is placed inside the barrel of the syringe; thereby not 10 disturbing the external shape of the syringe and allowing the syringe to fit into dedicated grooves on syringe pumps.

Some embodiments are directed to a medical device for fluidly connecting to a medical spike, including a spike port configured to receive therein the medical spike and establish fluid communication between the medical spike and the medical device. The spike-locking mechanism can be configured to resist extraction of the medical spike from the spike port.

Disclosed is a septum holder for use in a connector section of a fluid transfer apparatus for the transfer of a drug from one container to another. The septum holder comprises a body part and a septum support that are moveable in relation to each other. A septum is attached to the septum support. The body part and septum support are configured to be locked to each other at the end of a movement that brings them to their closest positions to each other.

An apparatus for securing a male-female connection comprises: (a) a female connector comprising a securing actuator section; (b) a male connector; (c) one or more anchoring ledges; and (d) at least one rotatable gear.

Some embodiments are directed to a connector for connection with a fluid transfer device, including an outer body having a longitudinal axis; and a luer lock connection port positioned within the outer body and configured to be coupled with an external port of said fluid transfer device. The luer lock connection port can be rotatable about the longitudinal axis at least in one of a clockwise direction and a counter-clockwise direction at least prior to initiation of coupling thereof with the external port. The outer body can be structured, and the luer lock connection port is positioned therewithin, such that to prevent an operator to access, through the outer body, directly by fingertips an exterior of the luer lock connection port after the luer lock connection port has been coupled with the external port.

Some embodiments are directed to a connector for connection with a fluid transfer device, including an outer body having a longitudinal axis; and a luer lock connection port positioned within the outer body and configured to be coupled with an external port of said fluid transfer device. A robotic system and method are provided for transfer of fluid between a container accessible via a container-septum and a fluid transfer assembly accessible via a fluid transfer connector septum. The robotic system includes a controller and a manipulator controllable by the controller to manipulate at least one of the container and the fluid transfer assembly. The controller is configured to operate the manipulator to secure contact between the container-septum and the fluid transfer connector septum during at least a portion of the transfer of the fluid.
