BACKGROUND

Field of the Invention

[0001]The present invention relates generally to an open eye sewing needle. More specifically, the invention is a sewing needle that has an eye portion not requiring threading through with a thread tip and knotless securing a thread's end to the needle eye

Background of the Invention

[0002]Prior to any sewing operations, a needle must be threaded by a needle generally through the eye of the needle. This can be insurmountable if the sewer's eyes are imperfect or sewer's hands are trembling or for other reason infirm hands with tremors or jitters.

[0003]Open eye needles have been disclosed which have fancy tips, needle eye dimensional elongations and shapes. Threading is improved but sacrifices are made for machine adaption for needle eye elongating tongue needle eye for elongated needle eye tongue sections.

[0004]In other inventions the length and a width of the eye region dimensions are based upon accommodating thread diameter greater than the length or width of the needle eye dimension such that smaller needle eye dimension squeezes the larger thread diameter into the larger eye dimension. While making this accommodation threading the needle eye again becomes problematic as squeezing a thread tip or end requires higher eye and hand dexterity, with the challenge of threading the needle increasing threading attempt failures thereby increasing the difficulty of threading instead of decreasing the challenge. Moreover securing the thread to the needle eye remains problematic. One needs two hands to secure a knot and this is not always available or the manual dexterity is not always there in a tight situation.

[0005]In addition, thimbles generally accompany sewing needles in the practice of stitching. Thimbles have been used for centuries, evolving from simple protective devices to intricate, sometimes decorative tools that are essential in sewing and needlework.

[0006]At times a sewing needle thimble is not available. A sewing needle stem is smooth and at times slippery and continuous needle penetration without a thimble would cause pain and injury. A thimble provides a hard surface to push the needle through thick fabrics and distribute pressure evenly across the fingers. A device is needed to shield a finger from repeated needle punctures, something which prevents painful needle pricks and potential bleeding when a finger must be used instead

[0007]Moreover, thimbles have a smooth, rounded surface which allow consistent, controlled needle pushing and function to prevent finger fatigue during extended sewing sessions. Especially when fabrics like denim, leather, or multiple layers require significant force and bare fingers quickly become sore and potentially bleeding. Without a thimble, fingers with repeated smooth stem needle pushing lack the resilience and strength for continuous sewing. What is needed are sewing needles without the strict reliance of a thimble, when a thimble cannot be found.

[0008]What is needed are sewing needles that can accommodate the imperfect sewer eyes and infirm hand. What is needed are sewing needs that allow ease of thread-needle securing and use easily replaceable and installable and re-installable threads. What is needed are ways to thread needles without the use of a thimble as a sew could well find themselves without one.

SUMMARY

[0009]The present invention discloses an open eye knotless securing sewing needle comprising a needle stem coupled to an open eye needle on one end, the needle open eye has a v-notch and at least one baffle inside of the open eye with the at least one baffle geometrically configured with interference to a direct line from the needle eye opening to the v-notch, with the baffle configured within the plane of the needle eye and cantilevered from one side of the needle eye and extending towards the opposite side of the needle eye. This enables a sewer to thread a needle wherein the thread is moved through the needle eye opening and directed around the baffle and firmly placed into the v-notch secures the thread to the needle for sewing purposes without need of a securing thread knot or threading the needle eye.

However, it will be apparent to one of ordinary skill in the art that the invention may be practiced without these specific details. In other instances, well-known features have not been described in detail to avoid unnecessarily complicating the description.

OBJECTS AND ADVANTAGES

[0018]An object of the invention is to provide a quick threading needle.

[0019]Another object of the invention is for creating a needle threading without securing the needle eye with a knot end so that an infirm handed sewer can still apply the needle to sewing without the sight or dexterity normally required to thread and tie the thread to the eye of the needle.

[0020]Yet another objective of the invention is to provide a sewing needle that can be threaded by one of with eye sight insufficient to thread a needle through a closed eye needle.

[0021]Another object of the invention is to provide a re-threadable securely fastened thread.

[0022]Another object of the invention is to provide sewing needles that can accommodate the imperfect sewer eyes and infirm hand.

[0023]Yet another objective is to provide sewing needs that allow ease of thread-needle securing and use easily replaceable and installable and re-installable threads.

[0024]Another objective is to provide ways to thread needles without the use of a thimble as a sewer could well find themselves without one.

[0026]FIG. 1 illustrates a typical dimension open needle eye with v-notch.

[0027]In an embodiment of the invention an open eye knotless v-notch sewing needle 108 is shown having a stem with two ends, one end of the stem with a sharp point 110 and the second stem end 107 coupled to an open needle eye 111. In an embodiment the open needle eye 111 has a vee-notch 103 with at least one baffle 102 inside of the open eye 111 of the needle, the baffle 102 extending from one side of the needle eye 106 and towards the opposite side of the needle eye 106. A thread 101 enters eye of the needle 111 and is directed around the baffle 102 and friction pressed coupled into the v-notch 103 teeth 109 to secure the thread to the needle eye 106. In some embodiments the needle point 110 is opposite the eye of the needle 111 on the stem.

[0028]FIG. 2 shows the eye of the needle 203 with an enhanced needle eye opening 201 with v-notch 205 securing thread 209 opposite to the needle eye opening 201 in an embodiment of the invention. Small protrusion like teeth are firmly coupled to an inside of the v-notch 205 providing friction for securing a thread 209 pressed inside the v-notch 205. Coupling a thread 209 to a needle requires passing the thread through a needle eye opening 201 and can involve some digital dexterity on the part of a stitcher. More than a single loop can be used for addition friction security against slipping out of the v-notch 205, providing a needle secured thread without requiring an actual knot or tie to the needle in addition to not requiring a eye of the needle 203 threading and re-threading. The sharp end of the needle 202 is formed from the eye of the needle 203 opposite to the needle stem 207. Again, the teeth structures coupled to an inside of the v-notch are for added thread friction.

[0029]FIG. 3 illustrates an open needle eye 303 with a baffle 307 in an embodiment of the invention. The baffle 307 is structurally configured in the needle eye facing a toothed v-notch 301. In an embodiment a needle stem rigidly emanating from the needle eye can have a length dedicated for a small cutting edge 309. The open eye sewing needle is comprised of firm or flexible material from a set of materials including hard rubber, elastic, synthetic, nylon, cotton and stretchable blends, metal alloys, synthetic and synthetic composite, such that the needle can be in some embodiments made of semi-firm but flexible material such that it can be curved from a straight configuration.

[0030]FIG. 4 illustrates a needle stem 405 partitioned zone 401 with a cutting edge 407 on the needle stem 405 in an embodiment of the invention. The cutting edge 407 on the needle stem 405 contiguous with a needle sharp end 403 provided for miscellaneous cutting use in small easy and timely situations requiring a thread to be severed or a knot freed.

[0031]FIG. 5 illustrates a measured and known length metering notch 505 on the needle stem 507 in an embodiment of the invention. On occasion a length of unknown length thread is required to be known to some precision. That thread or material length can be approximated by placing it adjacent to a known measured length, hence the metering notch. Thus in an embodiment of the open eye knotless securing sewing needle comprises a metering notch on the needle stem for convenience.

[0032]FIG. 6 illustrates a finger gripping friction zone on a sewing needle stem 605 in an embodiment of the invention. In an embodiment a needle stem length or zone 607 of a needle stem is starting from the needle eye 601 and extending ½ to 1½ inches along the stem from the needle eye 603, illustrates a needle stem gripping friction from protrusions, for better needle grip and reduced slippage. The needle stem protrusion profiles 606 609 projections are less than the needle eye maximum width 601 dimension so that actual needle grip protrusions would not increase the sewing hole size from follow-on thread pulls through a target material opening once started by the needle eye 603. In order to reduce drawbacks from slightly larger hole in fabric and potentially less precision, the stem finger grip protrusions 605 or finger grip friction structures will not extend outward from the needle stem 604 farther than the needle eye maximum width 601 dimension. In other words an embodiment with a needle stem zone or length of protrusions within the needle eye width dimension with protrusion profiles providing surface roughness for finger gripping friction.

[0033]Therefore, while the invention has been described with respect to a limited number of embodiments, those skilled in the art, having benefit of this invention, will appreciate that other embodiments can be devised which do not depart from the scope of the invention as disclosed herein. Other aspects of the invention will be apparent from the following description and the appended claims.
