BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1) Field of the Invention

[0004]The invention relates in general to the field of nursing covers for breastfeeding mothers, and more particularly to a lightweight, dual-layer nursing cover with strategically placed openings for discreet breastfeeding in public spaces.

2) Description of Related Art

[0005]Currently the state of the art includes a variety of nursing covers however the useability of these nursing covers does not meet the needs of the users.

[0006]Breastfeeding is a natural process for many mothers and infants, yet nursing in public spaces can present challenges for mothers who desire privacy and discretion. As society has become more accepting of public breastfeeding, there remains a demand for solutions that allow mothers to comfortably nurse their children while maintaining a sense of modesty in various settings.

[0007]Public spaces such as parks, restaurants, shopping malls, and airports typically do not provide dedicated areas for breastfeeding mothers to nurse in a private setting. Consequently, breastfeeding mothers often seek less crowded areas to comfortably nurse in public. During breastfeeding sessions, mothers may face the risk of accidental exposure due to the nature of nursing, as babies tend to grab, tug, and pull at material when feeding.

[0008]Nursing covers have emerged as a popular accessory for breastfeeding mothers, offering a means to create a private space for nursing in public areas. These covers come in various forms, including swaddle blankets, shawls, ponchos, and specialized nursing garments. While each type of cover serves the primary purpose of providing privacy, they often come with limitations that can impact their effectiveness and convenience.

[0009]Traditional nursing covers, such as blankets and shawls, offer flexibility but may lack security and ease of use. These items typically require careful arrangement and constant adjustment to maintain coverage, which can be challenging when handling an active infant. The loose nature of these covers may allow for accidental exposure, particularly when babies tug or pull at the fabric. Additionally, swaddle blankets and shawls can be wrapped in many ways, and since there is no standard and consistent method for wrapping these items, this reduces the security of the garment being wrapped around the upper body. Such covers are also not travel friendly, as they take up space in diaper bags and travel bags.

[0010]More structured nursing garments, such as ponchos and specialized tops, offer increased security but may be bulky or restrictive. These items are often designed to be worn as part of an outfit, which can limit their versatility and may not be suitable for all climates or situations. Furthermore, the excess fabric associated with these garments can be cumbersome and may not be ideal for travel or storage in diaper bags. Although these coverings are more securely fastened to the upper body because they are designed to be worn over the head, they are more desirable in colder climates.

[0011]The challenges associated with existing nursing covers can lead to discomfort or anxiety for breastfeeding mothers in public spaces. This may result in mothers limiting their time outside the home or seeking out secluded areas for nursing, potentially impacting their daily activities and social interactions. As the needs of breastfeeding mothers continue to evolve, there is a growing demand for nursing cover solutions that balance privacy, comfort, and convenience while addressing the limitations of existing products and offering versatility for use in various public settings and climates.

[0012]These and other objects, features, and advantages of the present invention will become more readily apparent from the attached drawings and the detailed description of the preferred embodiments, which follow.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0013]Bearing in mind the problems and deficiencies of the prior art, it is therefore an object of the present invention to provide nursing cover for providing privacy during breastfeeding.

[0015]According to an aspect of the present disclosure, a nursing garment kit for providing privacy to a user while breastfeeding a baby is provided. The nursing cover comprises an apron including a top apron portion and a lower skirt portion wherein the top apron portion has a feed opening and an outer cover portion for covering the feed opening. The nursing cover comprises an adjustable neck strap secured at each end to the top apron portion for wearing around the neck of the user. The outer cover includes a cowl neckline to allow the user to peer down into the nursing garment to see the baby nursing in between the outer cover portion and feed opening. The lower skirt portion includes a wrap and tie to secure the nursing garment to a waist of the user. The wrap allows the user to adjust the nursing garment. The garment is tunic length with an A-line silhouette, stopping just above hips of the user. The nursing cover includes a pouch for storing the apron, the pouch having a cavity accessible through a zippered opening, a pair of securing tabs and a strap having ends attachable to the securing tabs.

The nursing cover 100 includes a top layer 250 that extends from an upper portion to a lower portion in an A-line silhouette. The nursing cover 100 is constructed from lightweight fabric to enhance comfort and portability across various climates. The top layer 250 incorporates a cowl neckline at the upper portion, and the overall design provides a flowing silhouette from a bodice to a hem.

An adjustable neck strap 210 is secured with an attachment button 205 through a series of button holes 215. The elastic waistband 255 has a width of approximately 1-¼ inch for secure fitting around a waist area.
