A security network provides reduced power consumption and more robust communication of messages in comparison to conventional wireless systems. Reducing power consumption as discussed herein ensures that the security system is able to operate for a long duration of time, potentially with minimal or no power from an electrical grid. Additionally, redundant communication paths as discussed herein provide a more robust way of selectively forwarding security data to a remote server. The availability of multiple communication paths ensures that a respective remote target recipient such as a server resource or remote communication device operated by a user can be notified of a trigger event during power failure conditions, such as when certain communication functionality of a security system is disabled.

System and methods are provided that can address cold-start problems in database keyword searches. The search system generates machine-learned values for new item and queries based on historical signals for already existing item and queries. The values are used as input in a ranking model to rank search results for a user query. The initial values for the new item query pairs predict user engagement with the new item query pairs based on historical data for existing item query pairs and increase the visibility of new items to accumulate user interaction data for the new items. After additional user interactions are received, the values are updated using a Bayesian formula.

This disclosure relates to systems and methods for processing content and, particularly, but not exclusively, systems and methods for processing audio content. Devices and techniques are described for dynamically disabling occlusion in augmented reality. Point cloud data representing a physical 3D environment may be generated. An occupancy grid including a plurality of cells representing the 3D physical environment may be generated including first occupancy data for a first cell of the occupancy grid. The first occupancy data may indicate that the first cell is occupied based on a point of the point cloud data being present in the first cell. First data representing a placement of a first 3D virtual object may be received, the placement corresponding to a first set of the plurality of cells. A first number of the first set of the plurality of cells with occupancy data indicating occupancy may be determined. The first 3D virtual object may be rendered on a display of the mobile device in front of any physical objects in the 3D physical environment.

A system for virus detection, and related method, employ a fluorescence detection device to capture an image of processed samples irradiated by fluorescence excitation light. A system includes a fluorescence detection device and a computing device. The fluorescence detection device includes an image capture device that captures an image of fluorescence emitted by samples in response to incidence of the excitation light onto the samples. The computing device processes the image to determine one or more detection results for the presence of one or more viruses in the samples.

The present invention features VHOEs with expanded acceptance angle ranges as well as various systems and methods for fabricating VHOEs with expanded acceptance angle ranges. The VHOE with expanded acceptance angle range may include two or more individual Bragg gratings. In preferred embodiments, the two or more individual Bragg gratings have the same diffraction geometry but with shifted Bragg conditions. Having the same diffraction geometry means when light is incident on the VHOE including two or more individual Bragg gratings, the diffracted light from each of the Bragg gratings is co-linear or overlapping with the diffracted light from the other Bragg gratings. The Bragg condition for each of the Bragg gratings are shifted with respect to each neighboring Bragg grating by an amount up to the acceptance angle range of each individual Bragg grating.

A computing device can obtain data describing at least one document, the at least one document referencing at least one media object, wherein a portion of the at least one media object includes one or more characters. The computing device can obtain data describing the one or more characters in the at least one media object in the at least one document. The computing device can generate an updated copy of the at least one document that includes the data describing the one or more characters in the at least one media object. The computing device can present, on a display screen of the computing device and through an interface, the updated copy of the at least one document, wherein the one or more characters in the at least one media object are able to be selected or searched.

Techniques for providing recommended keywords in response to an image-based query are disclosed herein. In particular, various embodiments utilize an image matching service to identify recommended search keywords associated with image data received from a user. The search keywords can be used to perform a keyword search to identify content associated with an image input that may be relevant. For example, an image search query can be received from a user. The image search query may result in multiple different types of content that are associated with the image. The system may present keywords associated with matching images to allow a user to further refine their search and/or find other related products that may not match with the particular image. This enables users to quickly refine a search using keywords that may be difficult to identify otherwise and to find the most relevant content for the user.

Techniques for placing and manipulating multiple three-dimensional (3D) models using mobile augmented reality (AR) are described. One technique includes receiving a first request to initialize an AR simulation of a first product for sale within a physical environment. In response to the first request, a first 3D model of the first product for sale is rendered onto the screen. After rendering the first 3D model, a second request to visualize a second product for sale within the physical environment is received during the AR simulation of the first product for sale. In response to the second request, a second 3D model of the second product for sale is rendered onto the screen with the first 3D model.

An editable search refinement specification can be displayed with search results for a search query. The search refinement specification can include terms of the search query and any modifiers to the query, such as categories, filters, and other refinements. A user can edit portions of the search refinement specification inline, with other portions of the specification being retained, in order to adjust the search. Using such an approach, a user can adjust a search query without losing any context or refinement from a previous search that the user would like to use for the subsequent search. Various options can be provided with the search refinement specification, such as to edit any portion, delete one or more portions, suggest refinements, go to other specifications, and the like. The search refinement specifications also can be saved for use at a later time.
