Technologies for specialty chemical development and testing include devices and methods for receiving a test description. The test description is indicative of test parameters for a test of a chemical formulation, which may be an oil field specialty chemical. The devices and methods may include searching a database of historical test results based on similarity to the test parameters to generate multiple candidate chemical formulations. The devices and methods may cluster the candidate chemical formulations with an unsupervised machine learning algorithm to select a representative chemical formulation for each cluster. The devices and methods may include training a predictor based on test results using a supervised machine learning algorithm. Multiple virtual formulations may be generated and performances of each virtual formulation may be predicted with the predictor. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

The present disclosure provides compositions and methods for reducing sulfur-containing compounds in a hydrocarbon fluid. The compositions include an alpha amino ether and a synergistic compound. Additionally, the compositions may include a third component. The third component may be, for example, a heteroatom-containing component or a solvent.

The present invention pertains to a composition for crude oil production, comprising an emulsion viscosity reducer (EVR); a scale inhibitor, and a solvent system comprising water, an oil soluble solvent and a co-solvent; to a process for production of crude oil using the compositions; and the use of the compositions as flow improver or viscosity reducer.

The present disclosure describes solid compositions comprising a paraffin inhibitor and a corrosion inhibitor. The paraffin inhibitors include polymers having various repeat units containing one or more ester moieties. The corrosion inhibitors can be imidazoline compounds, quaternary ammonium compounds, or a combination thereof. These solid compositions can be used to treat subterranean hydrocarbon-containing reservoir and can inhibit or reduce paraffin deposition in the reservoir and/or inhibit or reduce corrosion in a piece of equipment in contact with the reservoir.

The present disclosure provides methods and compositions for controlling asphaltenes in a subterranean formation. The compositions may include a halloysite nanotube. The nanotube has a lumen and a polymer, along with a charged surfactant, may be disposed in the lumen. A wax may be disposed on the nanotube. The wax may be disposed at either or both ends of the nanotube, thereby temporarily preventing the polymer and charged surfactant from leaving the lumen.

The disclosure provides a composition including a corrosion inhibitor compound and an anti-emulsifier compound. The composition has a weight ratio of the anti-emulsifier to the corrosion inhibitor of about 20:1 to about 0.2:1. The composition may be used in a method of inhibiting corrosion of a metal surface. The method includes adding the composition to an aqueous system that includes the metal surface.

Disclosed herein are compositions and methods for increasing recovery, or flowback, of hydrocarbon compounds from hydrocarbon-containing subterranean fractured rock formations (tight shale reservoirs). The flowback compositions include an anionic dimer surfactant, an anionic monomer surfactant, and a demulsifier. The flowback compositions convert oil-wet rocks to water-wet, yet exhibit a low tendency of composition components to sorb to the rock. The flowback compositions do not cause formation of emulsions with hydrocarbon compounds within the subterranean fractured rock formations. The flowback composition are useful for increasing the yield of hydrocarbons recovered from tight shale reservoirs.

The present disclosure provides compositions and methods for use with hydrogen gas. A method may include adding hydrogen gas to a medium and adding a production chemical to the medium. As examples, the production chemical may be a corrosion inhibitor, an anti-foulant, a hydrate anti-agglomerate, a kinetic hydrate inhibitor, an amine for gas sweetening, a regenerable H 2 S scavenger, a non-regenerable H 2 S scavenger, an alcohol for gas dehydration, an alcohol for hydrate control, a thermodynamic hydrate inhibitor, or any combination thereof. The present disclosure also provides test methods to determine the susceptibility of a production chemical to reaction with hydrogen gas.

The present disclosure generally relates to compositions and uses of sulfidogenesis inhibitor compounds of Formulae 1 and 2 for preventing sulfidogenesis, i.e., the reduction reaction of a sulfur-containing compound by sulfur-utilizing prokaryotes that produce sulfide species such as hydrogen sulfide, during enhanced oil recovery processes. A method for inhibiting or decreasing microbial sulfide production by sulfur-utilizing prokaryotes includes addition of an effective amount of sulfidogenesis inhibitor compounds of Formulae 1 and 2 to the fluid that is injected into a sulfidogenic reservoir system during enhanced oil recovery. For example, the compounds can be used as sulfidogenesis inhibitors in a water injection system for use in a hydrocarbon extraction system or a hydrocarbon production system. Thus, these compositions can be effectively used as inhibitors of biogenic hydrogen sulfide generation in oilfield fluids.
