A method of controlling the concentration of a corrosion inhibitor in closed loop cooling water includes feeding a cooling water mixture containing a corrosion inhibiting composition including at least one copper corrosion inhibiting compound and at least one tagged polymer including a fluorescent moiety in the backbone thereof, through a circulating loop that circulates the cooling water past a copper surface, and on a sample of the cooling water mixture downstream from the copper surface in the circulating loop, measuring a fluorescence signal of the sample to determine a circulating concentration of the composition in the cooling water mixture and determine what, if any, adjustment is required in concentration.

Treatments are described for inhibiting corrosion in aqueous systems having metal surfaces that are in contact with water in a liquid phase and a vapor phase. The treatment includes adding a film-forming amine to the water and adding an additional film-forming compound that includes at least one of (i) an ethoxylated alkyl amine, (ii) an alkyl bis amide, and (iii) a fatty acid, an ester of the fatty acid, or an alkoxylated product of the fatty acid.

A composition for inhibiting oxidation and corrosion of a copper surface and/or removing oxidation and corrosion byproducts on a copper surface contains at least one copper corrosion inhibiting compound, at least one polymer dispersant, and at least one chelating agent, wherein the at least one chelating agent is included in the composition in an amount of from 0.1% to 10% by weight of the composition. The composition is applied to the copper surface, either as is or in a solution with purified water, and thereby inhibits and/or cleans corrosion such as copper oxide from the copper surface. The composition may be included in cooling water provided to a copper mold in a continuous casting process, or in an offline cleaning or storage campaign.

A porous matrix substrate that has chlorite reactant distributed therein can be used to produce gaseous chlorine dioxide. Ozone-containing gas can pass through the porous matrix substrate and the ozone can react with the chlorite to produce chlorine dioxide.

A method for inhibiting scale deposition in a geothermal system, the method includes treating a water stream of the geothermal system with a scale inhibitor composition, wherein the scale inhibitor composition comprises a compound that includes a peptide bond. The compound that includes the peptide bond may be polypeptide, such as polyaspartic acid. The scale inhibitor composition may include a ligand or dispersant polymer.

A method of monitoring tagged poly-DADMAC in a water treatment system includes adding an initial amount of the tagged poly-DADMAC into the water treatment system to obtain a target concentration of the poly-DADMAC in the water treatment system; and measuring a later concentration of the poly-DADMAC in the water treatment system. Another method of monitoring tagged poly-DADMAC in a water treatment system includes continuously adding the tagged poly-DADMAC into the water treatment system at an initial position within the water treatment system; continuously measuring a downstream concentration of the poly-DADMAC within the water treatment system; determining whether the measured downstream concentration is above or below a predetermined threshold value; and adjusting a concentration of the poly-DADMAC being continuously added into the water treatment system according to whether the measured downstream concentration is determined to be above or below the predetermined threshold value.

A method for inhibiting corrosion of a corrodible metal surface that contacts a water stream in a geothermal well system. The method includes introducing into the water stream a corrosion inhibitor composition comprising: (i) a cationic surfactant, such as an imidazoline and/or a fatty amine ethoxylate, and (ii) an anionic surfactant.

This disclosure provides methods for inhibiting corrosion in a closed loop systems in which a heat transfer fluid is in contact with a corrodible aluminum surface by combining a corrosion inhibitor composition with the fluid. The corrosion inhibitor composition comprises an organic acid component that includes at least one of (i) an aromatic dicarboxylic acid, an aromatic tricarboxylic acid, or salts, anions, or derivatives thereof; (ii) an organosulfonic acid or a salt or anion thereof; and (iii) an amino dicarboxylic acid or a salt or anion thereof.

Methods and compositions for suppressing corrosion of a corrodible metal surface that contacts a water stream in a water system. The method comprises introducing into the water stream a treatment composition, the treatment composition including a combination of passivators and a hydroxycarboxylic acid promoter.
