A shoe having a sole. The sole includes a midsole including multiple midsole portions. A first midsole portion is an inner portion of a first midsole material. A second, midsole portion of a second midsole material circumscribes the first midsole portion, and a third midsole portion formed of a third midsole material circumscribes the second midsole portion. The second midsole portion has a greater durometer hardness than the first midsole portion. The third midsole portion has a different durometer hardness than the second midsole portion. The second midsole portion is of a different color than each of the first midsole portion and the third midsole portion. An outsole secured to the midsole is sufficiently translucent so that the first, second, and third midsole portions are visually discernable one from another by a person of normal, unaided vision viewing the outsole.

A shoe includes a knit upper and a sole secured to the knit upper. The knit upper is formed with a first type of knit structure knitted with a thermoplastic yarn in a first area. The first area is in at least the toe region of the knit upper. In a second area including at least the medial and lateral metatarsal regions of the knit upper, the knit upper is formed with a second type of knit structure knitted with a second yarn having a higher melting temperature than the thermoplastic yarn. A rear boundary line of the first area and a forward boundary line of the second area define a boundary line between the first and second areas.

A shoe comprising a sole, an upper secured to the sole, and a welt. The welt comprises at least one piece separate from the sole and upper. The welt is adjacent both the sole and the upper and is secured to at least one of the sole and the upper. The sole is a 3-D printed sole comprising a plurality of interconnected cells. Each cell of the plurality of interconnected cells is connected to at least one adjacent cell of the plurality of interconnected cells. The shoe has a torsional stiffness at least 100% greater than the torsional stiffness of a first comparison shoe. The first comparison shoe is identical to the shoe except the first comparison shoe is devoid of a welt. The torsional stiffness is a torque sufficient to rotate the heel-widest portion ten degrees (10°) from an un-torqued condition as the ball-widest portion is held stationary.

A method of forming a shoe sole having the appearance of leather. A masking is applied to a peripheral margin of a shoe sole. After applying the masking to the peripheral margin, a first paint is applied to the sole edge. The first paint is of a first color. After applying the first paint, a second paint is applied to the sole edge. The second paint is of a second color. After applying the second paint, a third paint is applied to the sole edge to form a sole edge pattern. The third paint is of a third color different from the first and second colors. After applying the third paint, a lacquer finish is applied to the sole edge. The sole edge pattern has the appearance of leather.
