A method includes operating a tool of a cutting machine to form a shape at a material surface. The shape has an x-fiducial at an estimated x-coordinate at the material surface and a y-fiducial at an estimated y-coordinate at the material surface. With the shape weeded from the material surface, the method includes operating a sensor of the cutting machine to capture sensor data representative of the material surface. Based on the captured sensor data, the method includes determining a measured x-coordinate of the x-fiducial at the material surface and a measured y-coordinate of the y-fiducial at the material surface. Based on a comparison of the estimated x-coordinate and the measured x-coordinate of the x-fiducial and a comparison of the estimated y-coordinate and the measured y-coordinate of the y-fiducial, the method includes determining an x-offset and a y-offset between the tool and the sensor of the cutting machine.

A crafting apparatus includes a working portion and a base portion. The working portion includes a lower surface and an upper surface. The upper surface defines a working three dimensional Cartesian coordinate system. The base portion includes a lower surface and an upper surface. The lower surface of the working portion is disposed adjacent to the upper surface of the base portion. The lower surface defines a non-working three dimensional Cartesian coordinate system. The upper surface of the working portion extends relative to the lower surface of the base portion at an angle for angularly-offsetting the working three dimensional Cartesian coordinate system from the non-working three dimensional Cartesian coordinate system. A method includes executing a design generating program configured to display on a screen a graphical user interface having a virtual canvas window configured to present selected content objects to be incorporated into a unique design, and a content object selection window including available content objects to select from for presentation in the virtual canvas window. The program is configured to: receive, in the content object selection window, selection inputs indicating selection of first and second content objects and display the first and second content objects in the virtual canvas window. The program is further configured to receive, in the virtual canvas window, manipulation inputs to move the first content object to a target position relative to the second content object, and based on the first and second content objects overlapping, generate, for display in the virtual canvas window, the unique design.
