LOAD-BALANCING FUNCTIONALITY IN A PUMP UNIT

Filed:2025-12-04Pub:2026-06-18
Applicant:Danfoss A/S

The invention relates to a controller ( 80 ) for a pump ( 42 ) with a variable pump capacity (PPC) in a pump unit ( 41 ). It has a sensor interface ( 81 ) for receiving internal signals (ITS) and a communication interface ( 82 ) for receiving the external signals (EXS) from a first fluid circuit ( 10 ) with further pump units ( 41 a , 41 b ). It obtains an individual pressure increase (IPI) over the pump ( 42 ) with the internal signals (ITS). In a normal-mode operation, it controls the pump capacity (PPC) based on the external signals (EXS). It determines if the external signals (EXS) are received no longer and/or receives a failure-indication signal from the first fluid circuit ( 10 ), and then automatically switches to a failure-mode operation. It stores reference information (RFI) based at least on a part of the external signals (EXS) in the normal-mode operation in a memory ( 83 ) and controls, in the failure-mode operation, the pump capacity (PCC) based at least on the individual pressure increase (IPI) and the reference information (RFI); and/or it controls, in the failure-mode operation, the pump capacity (PPC) based at least on the individual pressure increase (IPI), on the pump capacity (PCC), and a failure-mode specific adaptation of a deadband (DB) for controlling the pump capacity (PCC). The invention also relates to a cooling distribution unit ( 30 ) with the controller ( 80 ), a data center cooling system ( 1 ) with the latter, and a method for controlling a pump ( 42 ).
