A fan may be operated in a first mode with a first maximum speed so as to operate at a given efficiency rating or maximum power draw over time. In some instances, a controller may allow the fan to temporarily operate in a second mode with a maximum speed that exceeds that of the first mode. But in order to maintain a similar efficiency overall (or average a similar power draw) as the first mode, the second mode may subsequently force the maximum speed to a speed lower than maximum speed in the first mode. This dynamic maximum allowed speed may result in a similar efficiency and/or power draw over time as a fan that is only allowed to operate at a single, constant maximum speed.

A fan blade adapted for connecting to a mount includes a body having an airfoil shape in cross-section, the body including a hollow portion having a lower surface and a. solid portion depending from the body to a location below the lower surface when the fan blade is connected to the mount. A winglet may be attached to one end of the body, and may include a portion having an airfoil shape in cross-section. The winglet may comprise a body including a mount for connecting to the fan blade. The body may further include a generally vertical portion having a. greater surface area, below the mount than above the mount. The body may have a portion angled in both a vertical direction and in plan view, such as along a leading edge, trailing edge, or both. The fan blade may be extruded from aluminum.

A ceiling fan includes a rotatable hub adapted to be suspended from the ceiling. The hub includes at least one fan blade adapted for rotating with the hub. An uplight module is provided having a plurality of different lights, each of the plurality of lights for producing a different type of light incident on the ceiling. The uplight module may include a modular circuit board assembly comprising a main board including one or more LEDs and one or more auxiliary boards connected to the main board and including one or more UV LEDs, whereby adaptation for producing germicidal energy can be achieved without dismounting the ceiling fan from the ceiling. A controller may be provided for controlling the light intensity or temperature, including from pre-selected values. Related methods are also disclosed.

An airway management device comprising a body having a proximal end for receiving an oxygen supply tube and an distal end for insertion into a trachea of a patient; said body including a linear portion adjacent to the proximal end and a curved portion adjacent to the distal end; said body including an external shell and having a first bore through said shell for receiving the oxygen supply tube; wherein flexural strength for said airway management device is provided by said shell.

A system for mounting a fan to a ceiling includes a connector adapted to attach to the ceiling. The connector includes at least one guide. An adaptor is adapted to attach the fan to the connector, and includes at least one rail adapted for being received within the at least one guide. A safety bracket is also provided, which is adapted to attach to the ceiling separate from the connector and connect to a safety cable without using a tool. A motor support is also provided with a cavity adapted to receive the power supply, and at least one retainer serves to retain the power supply within the cavity. A quick-connecting escutcheon is also adapted to rotatably connect to the connector.

A dynamic fan mount for supporting the fan has a first part movable relative to a second part. A modular restrictor restricts lateral movement or swaying of the fan. In one embodiment, the modular restrictor is formed of two portions, which may be interconnected by a fastener, and one of which includes a channel in communication with a central passage. Related methods are also disclosed.

A fan system comprises a hub, a plurality of fan blades, a drive system, and a stationary tube. The hub is configured to rotate. The fan blades are mounted to the hub. The drive system comprises a rotatable hollow output shaft. The hollow output shaft is in communication with the hub, such that the drive system is operable to rotate the hub via the hollow output shaft. The stationary tube is inserted through the hollow output shaft. The stationary tube is configured to remain stationary as the hollow output shaft rotates. Wires and the like may be passed through the stationary tube, to reach an accessory mounted at the bottom of the stationary tube. The fan system may also include a detector, such as a heat detector, a smoke detector, or an accelerometer. The detector may power down the fan system in response to detecting certain conditions.
