An apparatus for monitoring and replenishing an inventory of goods includes a first inventory area and a first movable structure having a first optical code associated with the first distinct inventory area. The first movable structure is placed in a replenishment signaling area after a supply of goods in the inventory area is depleted. Boundary optical codes are disposed near a boundary of the replenishment signaling area. A camera generates periodic images of the replenishment signaling area and the boundary optical codes. A computer processor detects the boundary optical codes in the images and determines a boundary line of the replenishment signaling area based thereon. The processor determines a spatial relationship between the first optical code and the boundary line in the images and generates a replenishment notification based on the spatial relationship. The replenishment notification indicates that the supply of the first type of goods needs to be replenished.

A patient positioning system configured for positioning and supporting a patient against movement on an operating table, the positioning system including a pair of arm positioners each configured to be positionable about an arm of the patient when the patient is lying on the operating table, each of the arm positioners provided as a sheet material configured to be wrapped around one of the arms of the patient to position each of the arm positioners to snugly envelope one of the arms and having releasable fasteners to maintain the arm positioners in the wrapped configuration; and an elongate lift sheet configured to extend across the operating table and underneath the back of the patient, the lift sheet being positioned to have opposite ends thereof wrapped over and around the arm positioners and tucked back under the lower back or sacrum of the patient to securely and snugly hold the lift sheet around the arm positioners and restrain the arms of the patient.

An apparatus that monitors an inventory of goods in an inventory area includes a detectable element on a movable structure, and a detector that can detect the detectable element in a replenishment signaling area. A state machine represents states of the inventory area: a first state when the detectable element is not in the replenishment signaling area; a second state when the detectable element is in the replenishment signaling area; and a third state when an order has been placed to replenish the goods. A first-to-second state transition occurs when the detector detects the detectable element in the replenishment signaling area. A second-to-third state transition occurs when an order for the goods is processed. Based on the second-to-third state transition, a replenishment notification is generated. A third-to-first state transition occurs based on the detector not detecting the detectable element in the replenishment signaling area for a predetermined time period.

In an optical imaging based Kanban inventory replenishment system, a top shelf structure is configured to enhance the visibility of optical codes on empty bins that are placed on the top shelf of a shelving unit, and a validation apparatus placed on top of the top shelf structure is configured for use in validation procedure that confirms a proper installation and alignment of cameras used in capturing images of the optical codes on the empty bins.

The disclosure provides surgical pillows having a foam body having a front ramp abutting and aligned with a planar central plateau having an upper surface, the front ramp including side flares sloping away from opposite sides of the front ramp; side members located on opposite sides of the front ramp and the central plateau and extending upwardly above the front ramp and the central plateau; a channel formed across at least a portion of the width of the pillow and vertically lower than the upper surface of the central plateau; and a rigid securement member having a vertical member securable in a fixed position relative to the patient support surface and a horizontal member received within the channel to fix the position of the surgical pillow relative to the patient support surface.
