The invention relates to a method for operating an induction cooktop ( 1 ). The induction cooktop ( 1 ) comprises at least two cooking zones ( 4, 6 ). The method comprises—providing for selection by a user at least two different preprogrammed cooking schemes (B, G, F, S, W) for controlling a respective cooking zone ( 4, 6 ) according to a predefined heating course, —assigning different priority values to each cooking scheme (B, G, F, S, W), and—upon selection of a respective cooking scheme (B, G, F, S, W) for at least two cooking zones ( 4, 6 ) diverting heating power (P) to the respective cooking zones ( 4, 6 ) in dependence on the respective priority value assigned.

A computer implemented method is disclosed for managing a plurality of household devices associated with a user. The method may include, if an instant power consumption of the plurality of household devices does not comply with a threshold power consumption: providing a plurality of setting scenarios for allowing the instant power consumption of the plurality of household devices to comply with the threshold power consumption, each setting scenario corresponding to at least one of (i) one or more settings of each of more than one of the plurality of household devices and (ii) one or more settings of at least one first household device of the plurality of household devices conditional on a current state of at least one second household device of the plurality of household devices. They method may include receiving a user selection of a setting scenario among the plurality of setting scenarios.

A laundry machine comprising: a drum; a motor to rotate the drum; electric heating element(s) configured to produce heat; an airflow path from the heating element(s) to the drum; an analog to digital converter (ADC) configured to sample an AC voltage from a first power line of a group of power lines connected to the machine; and a controller configured to: (a) trigger the ADC to sample an AC voltage from the first power line, (b) determine a timing of occurrence of a peak value of the sampled AC voltage from the first power line, (c) compare the timing of occurrence of the peak value to predetermined timing signatures, (d) choose one of the timing signatures based on the comparison, and (e) control power to the electric heating element based on the chosen timing signature.
