A cholesteric liquid crystal (ChLC) display and driving method thereof are provided. The ChLC display has a driving circuit for providing voltage on a scan line and a data line so as to drive a pixel. The driving circuit provides a first voltage and a second voltage to the data and the scan lines during a first time period, a third voltage to the data line and/or a fourth voltage to the scan line during a second time period, a fifth voltage and a sixth voltage to the data and the scan lines during a third time period. The first and sixth voltages are high levels, the second and fifth voltages are low levels, the levels of the third and fourth voltages are between the high and low levels.

A double-layer cholesteric liquid crystal display and its manufacturing method are disclosed. The double-layer cholesteric liquid crystal display includes three transparent substrates, two opposing electrode layers, two cholesteric liquid crystal layers, and a first light-absorbing layer. Additionally, the double-layer cholesteric liquid crystal display incorporates two drive ICs and a second light-absorbing layer. The two drive ICs can be positioned either on the same side or on opposite sides within the non-display area of the double-layer cholesteric liquid crystal display. Furthermore, the first cholesteric liquid crystal layer exhibits a first color light, and the second cholesteric liquid crystal layer exhibits a second color light, where the colors are selected as contrasting colors. Additionally, the two cholesteric liquid crystal layers possess mutually opposite optical rotary properties. The invention is capable of producing a thinner, lighter double-layer cholesteric liquid crystal display that enhances contrast and reflectivity, thereby effectively improving the overall display performance.

A cholesteric liquid crystal display comprising red, green, and blue cholesteric liquid crystal modules. It further comprises a first thin-film photovoltaic module disposed between the blue and the green cholesteric liquid crystal modules, and a second thin-film photovoltaic module disposed between the green and the first selective light reflection modules. The first thin-film photovoltaic module is partially photo-permeable in which the transmittance of blue light is lower than the transmittance of the other lights. It IS preferably a dye sensitized solar cell module which specifically responsible for harvesting blue light. The second thin-film photovoltaic module is partially photo-permeable in which the transmittance of green light is lower than the transmittance of the other lights. It is preferably a dye sensitized solar cell module which specifically responsible for harvesting green light.

The present invention relates to a cholesteric liquid crystal display device, and a control method. The cholesteric liquid crystal display device includes a cholesteric liquid crystal display module, a solar battery unit, and a control unit. The control unit further includes an ambient energy management module and an energy storage module. The solar battery unit provides electrical energy to the management module. And the ambient energy management module stores electrical energy in the energy storage module. When it is necessary to refresh the images of the cholesteric liquid crystal display module, and the potential difference of the energy storage module reaches the charging cut-off voltage. The energy storage module can discharge the stored electrical energy to provide the electrical energy required by the cholesteric liquid crystal display module to refresh the image.

A composite display device includes a composite display, a brightness acquisition module, an image management module and a panel controlling module. The composite display includes a first display panel and a second display panel. The brightness acquisition module is connected to the composite display and acquires an ambient brightness around the composite display. The image management module is connected to the brightness acquisition module and generates a first image setting signal and a second image setting signal according to the ambient brightness. The panel controlling module is connected to the image management module and the composite display, and respectively controls the first display panel and the second display panel to display a first and second images based on the first and second image setting signals to form a composite image.

A self-powered display device includes a display module and a power module. The display module is a cholesteric liquid crystal display module, and the power module is a solar cell module. The display module allows light to enter the power module from the front side, and the power module generates electricity upon receiving the light to provide the necessary energy for the display module to show images. The power module has multiple active areas and multiple inactive areas between the active areas. When the width of the inactive area is less than or equal to 50 μm, the human eye will have difficulty discerning the width of the inactive area. Additionally, a shielding layer can be placed on the inactive area to ensure that the visual color difference (ΔE) between the inactive area and the active area does not exceed 10 color difference units, thereby improving the image quality.

A spliced reflective display includes multiple display devices, a front light guide plate, and at least one light source. Among the multiple display devices, one display device is joined side-by-side with another to form an adjacent joint. The front light guide plate is affixed above the multiple display devices and is close to the display side. It has a top surface near the display side and includes an optical structure. The at least one light source is positioned at the side of the front light guide plate, and light therefrom reflects off the top surface of the front light guide plate onto the multiple display devices, and the reflected light from the display devices forms image light that is directed towards the display side to produce an image. The optical structure directs the path of the image light to obscure the adjacent joint from being visible on the display side.

A spliced reflective display includes multiple display devices, a front light guide plate, and at least one light source. Among the multiple display devices, one display device is joined side-by-side with another to form an adjacent joint. The front light guide plate is affixed above the multiple display devices and is close to the display side. It has a top surface near the display side and includes an optical structure. The at least one light source is positioned at the side of the front light guide plate, and light therefrom reflects off the top surface of the front light guide plate onto the multiple display devices, and the reflected light from the display devices forms image light that is directed towards the display side to produce an image. The optical structure directs the path of the image light to obscure the adjacent joint from being visible on the display side.

The present disclosure provides a method for driving a cholesteric liquid crystal display device. The method includes the following steps: utilizing a driving circuit section to sequentially activate each scanning electrode within a display panel; utilizing the driving circuit section to apply first alternating-current (AC) voltage pulses to pixel circuits on an activated scanning electrode during a first stage within a pulse-width modulation (PWM) scanning procedure of an activated scanning electrode; and utilizing the driving circuit section to apply second AC voltage pulses to the pixel circuits on the activated scanning electrode during a second stage of the PWM scanning procedure. A first voltage amplitude and a first period of the first AC voltage pulses are different from a second voltage amplitude and a second period of the second AC voltage pulses, respectively.
