An apparatus and methods are provided for a reusable multi-panel air filter to remove contaminants from air within interior building environments. The reusable multi-panel air filter comprises a multiplicity of reusable filter panels for filtering an airstream. A frame supports the filter panels within an HVAC system. The filter panels are angled with respect to one another to form adjacent V-configurations. Elongated openings in the frame allow the airstream to flow into the V-configurations and through the filter panels. Seats in top and bottom end plates of the frame maintain the V-configurations of the filter panels. The filter panels can be removed from the frame for servicing without removing the entire frame from the HVAC system. The filter panels can be cleaned by removing them from the multi-panel air filter, flushing contaminants from the filter panels, and allowing the filter panels to dry.

An apparatus and methods are provided for a reinforced V-bank air filter to remove contaminants from air within interior building environments. The reinforced V-bank air filter includes a V-bank filter element comprising a relatively large filter medium that is routed around the outside of multiple pleat supports. The pleat supports are vertically disposed and distributed at intervals between a top end plate and a bottom end plate supporting the V-bank filter element. Side rails enable attaching opposite ends of the V-bank filter element to the V-bank air filter. Seats in the top and bottom end plates maintain V-configurations of the V-bank filter element. The pleat supports and side rails enable removing the V-bank filter element from the V-bank air filter for servicing. The V-bank filter element can be cleaned by using a water hose to flush contaminants from the filter element and then allowing the filter element to dry.

An apparatus and a method are provided for a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system air filter for a building ventilation system. The HVAC system air filter comprises a supportive frame configured to orient the HVAC system air filter within the building ventilation system. A composite filter medium retained within the supportive frame comprises a cotton gauze portion and an electrostatic portion. The cotton gauze portion is configured for treatment with a filter oil composition to enhance airflow and filtration of air flowing through the composite filter medium. The electrostatic portion is configured to electrostatically attract and agglomerate airborne molecular contaminants and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) as small as 0.001 microns in diameter. In some embodiments, the composite filter medium comprises substances configured to release a fragrance into air passing through the composite filter medium.

The cotton gauze portion is configured for treatment with a filter oil composition to enhance airflow and filtration of air flowing through the composite filter medium. The electrostatic portion is configured to electrostatically attract and agglomerate airborne molecular contaminants and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) as small as 0.001 microns in diameter. In some embodiments, the composite filter medium comprises substances configured to release a fragrance into air passing through the composite filter medium.

The air filter comprises a support frame having a shape and size suitable to orient the air filter within a HVAC system. A compound filter medium is retained within the support frame to remove the airborne molecular contaminants and VOCs from air flowing through the HVAC system. A portion of the first media layer is pleated and may comprise a combination of media layers configured to exhibit a relatively high filtration efficiency and a low air pressure drop across the filter medium. A second portion of the filter medium is coupled to the first portion and maintains a uniform distribution of the pleats with the first portion.

The HVAC home air filter a supportive frame having a shape and size suitable to orient the HVAC home air filter within a residential HVAC system. A filter medium is retained within the supportive frame to remove the airborne molecular contaminants and VOCs from air flowing through the residential HVAC system. The filter medium is a combination of media layers configured to exhibit a relatively high filtration efficiency and a low air pressure drop across the filter medium. The supportive frame comprises a plurality of elongate sections and corner sections disposed along perimeter edges of the filter medium to support the filter medium within the residential HVAC system so as direct air through the filter medium.

An apparatus and methods are provided for an air filter for removing contaminants from air within interior building spaces. The air filter comprises a V-bank filter element for removing contaminants from an airstream flowing through a HVAC system. The V-bank filter element includes filter panels that are angled with respect to one another to form adjacent V-configurations such that front edges of adjacent filter panels are placed in contact and rear edges of adjacent filter panels similarly placed in contact. A top member and a bottom member receive top and bottom edges of the filter panels for supporting the V-configurations. A frame couples with the top member and the bottom member and orients the V-bank filter element within the HVAC system such that the airstream is directed through the V-bank filter element. Openings are disposed in the frame for allowing the airstream to enter the V-bank filter element.
