Systems and methods for the efficient use of an implantable pulse generator (IPG) battery are disclosed. A representative system for adjusting an electrical signal of an IPG associated with delivering therapy to a patient comprises a computer readable medium having instructions that cause the IPG to deliver a supply voltage at a first value, adjust the supply voltage from the first value until a threshold break occurs, and, based at least in part of the threshold break, increase the supply voltage from the second value to a third value. As therapy is delivered to the patient, the system iteratively adjusts the supply voltage to approach and reflect a variable minimum voltage needed to provide the requested current to the IPG.

The present technology provides systems and methods for directly suppressing nerve cells by delivering electrical stimulation having relatively long pulse widths and at amplitudes below an activation threshold of the nerve cells. For example, some embodiments include delivering a therapy signal having individual pulses with pulse widths of between about 5 ms and 100 ms. Directly suppressing the nerve cells is expected to reduce the transmission of pain signals.

The present technology is directed generally to spinal cord modulation and associated systems and methods for treating pain and other patient conditions. In particular, the present technology includes modified high frequency neuromodulation signals and administration patterns.

The present technology provides systems and methods for delivering electrical stimulation having relatively long pulse widths to a patient’s spinal cord region to treat autonomic nervous system dysfunction. For example, some embodiments include delivering an electrical therapy signal having individual pulses with pulse widths of between about 2 milliseconds and about 10 seconds. The electrical therapy signals may treat autonomic nervous system dysfunction by normalizing activity of the patient’s parasympathetic nervous system, normalizing activity of the patient’s sympathetic nervous system, and/or normalizing a balance of activity between the patient’s parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems.

The present technology is directed to managing blood glucose levels in patients and associated systems and methods. For example, the present technology provides a method for decreasing blood glucose levels in patients by delivering electrical signals to a spinal column of the patient via an implanted signal delivery device. The stimulation induces motor contractions in the lower extremity or abdomen, thus causing glucose uptake from the bloodstream in an insulin-independent manner.

Selective high-frequency spinal chord modulation for inhibiting pain with reduced side affects and associated systems and methods are disclosed. In particular embodiments, high-frequency modulation in the range of from about 1.5 KHz to about 50 KHz may be applied to the patient's spinal cord region from an epidural, cervical location to address at least one of high back pain, mid-back pain, low back pain, and leg pain without creating paresthesia in the patient.

A surgical system for preparing the sacroiliac (SI) joint for a fusion, comprising a sliding joint finder and a working cannula. The working cannula comprises a body having a central axis that runs the length of the body. The body of the working cannula comprises a distal end, a proximal end and a central cavity that is positioned along the central axis of the working cannula and has suitable dimensions for sliding the working cannula over the sliding joint finder and the working cannula further comprises two protrusions extending proximally. In addition, the two protrusions have uneven lengths such that when the working cannula is inserted, the longer of the two protrusions engages the SI joint at a superior end of the SI joint and the shorter of the two protrusions engages the SI joint at an inferior end of the SI joint.

A power control circuit for use with devices that will be placed in a flammable sterilizing gas includes a bi-stable switch that is configured to produce an output to place the circuitry of a connected device in a run state or a sleep state. The bi-stable switch controls one or more transistors to drain energy from energy storage devices in the circuitry of the connected device to a level below an ignition level of a sterilizing gas. A remotely actuatable switch can be actuated from outside of a packaging in which the power control circuit is placed to cause the bi-stable switch to produce an output that puts the circuitry in the run state without removing the power control circuit from the packaging.
