A high toughness, high puncture resistant, recyclable packaging film, includes an outer layer having opposing first and second surfaces, the outer layer formed of one of a machine direction oriented polyethylene-based film or a biaxially oriented polyethylene-based film. A middle layer has opposing first and second surfaces and is formed of the other of the machine direction oriented polyethylene-based film and the biaxially oriented polyethylene-based film. A first bonding interlayer bonds the outer layer second surface to middle layer first surface. An inner layer has opposing first and second surfaces, the first surface of the inner layer bonded to the second surface of the middle layer. The inner layer comprises a polyolefin-based polymer and the second surface of the inner layer is heat sealable and defines an innermost surface of the packaging film. In a further aspect, a packaging article formed of the packaging film herein is provided.

A web of sheet material is provided which can be wrapped around a product to form a pack. The sheet material comprises a sealant ply laminated to an outer ply. The sealant ply has a first major surface and a second major surface opposite the first major surface, the first major surface comprising a heat sealable material. The outer ply has a third major surface and a fourth major surface opposite the third major surface, wherein the third major surface faces the second major surface. The web of sheet material comprises a plurality of connected blanks, each blank comprising a plurality of cutouts removing a portion of the outer ply, the cutouts aligned with overlapping portions of transverse heat seal regions of the sheet material.

A multilayer packaging material includes a substrate formed of a cellulosic fiber-based material. The substrate has a first major surface and a second major surface opposite the first major surface. An oxygen barrier layer is formed of a PVOH material attached to the substrate, wherein the oxygen barrier layer is an innermost layer of the multilayer packaging material and further wherein the oxygen barrier layer is heat sealable. At least one moisture barrier layer is attached to the substrate, the moisture barrier layer selected from an inner moisture barrier layer disposed intermediate the substrate and the oxygen barrier layer and an outer moisture barrier layer disposed on the second major surface of the substrate. In further aspects, a packaging article, a method for making a multilayer packaging material, and a method for packaging a product are provided.

A compostable laminated packaging film comprises a first cellulosic layer having a first major surface and a second major surface opposite the first major surface. The first major surface of the first cellulosic layer is configured to face away from a product to be packaged and the second major surface of the first cellulosic layer has undergone surface treatment. A second cellulosic layer has a first major surface and a second major surface opposite the first major surface. The first major surface of the second cellulosic layer is configured to face toward a product to be packaged and the second major surface of the second cellulosic layer has undergone surface treatment. A pattern bonded extrusion interlayer comprises a compostable polymer disposed between the first and second cellulosic layers and defines bonded and unbonded regions arranged in a patterned configuration.

A laminated web having a machine direction and a transverse direction extending in a direction perpendicular to the machine direction is provided, and includes outer and inner plies. The outer ply is formed of a paper material having a cutout defining a window region disposed at a predetermined location on the outer ply. The inner ply is formed of a heat sealable, ovenable polymer film having a perforation region disposed at a predetermined location on the inner ply. An adhesive layer is disposed intermediate the outer and inner plies and bonds the outer and inner plies together wherein the outer ply and the inner ply are in registration with each other such that the perforation region is substantially overlapping with the window region. In further aspects, packaging articles, methods for making the laminated web, and method for making the packaging articles are provided.

The present disclosure relates generally to flexible product packaging and, in particular, to flexible packaging structures for products such as food products stored and transported for later reheating or cooking. In one aspect, an ovenable flexible packaging structure includes a paper layer having a first major surface and a second major surface opposite the first major surface, the paper layer having a cutout defining a window. A printed ink layer is disposed on the first major surface of the paper layer and a varnish layer is disposed over the printed ink layer. A heat sealable polyester layer is disposed on the second major surface of the paper layer, the heat sealable polyester layer having a strip of perforations formed therein. The strip of perforations and the cutout are at least partially overlapping with each other. An adhesive layer intermediate the paper layer and the heat sealable polymer layer includes an adhesive for adhesively bonding the paper layer to the heat sealable polymer layer. In further aspects, packaging articles formed of the flexible packaging structures and methods for making the flexible packaging structures and packaging articles are provided.

A laminated recyclable polyolefin-based film structure comprises an oriented film outer layer comprising a polar polymer. At least one polymer-based film layer comprises a polyolefin polymer and a multifunctional polar polymer compatibilizer, wherein the multifunctional polar polymer compatibilizer comprises a polyolefin functionalized with at least two different functional groups. Packaging articles formed of the film structure are also provided. The oriented film outer layer imparts good mechanical and/or heat resistance properties to the film.

Recyclable, paper-based packaging structures and articles comprise extensible or semi-extensible paper layer with an anisotropy ratio in the range of 0.67 to 1.5 and a polymer extrusion coating layer. Methods for forming same are also provided. The structures and articles have a puncture resistance of 3 lbf or greater. Recyclable, paper-based packaging structures and articles and methods are formed using a polymer extrusion coating layer disposed on one side of an extensible or semi-extensible paper layer having an anisotropy ratio in the range of 0.67 to 1.5. A second polymer extrusion coating layer is disposed on a second side of the paper substrate layer. Advantageously, the paper substrates have a puncture resistance in the range of 3 lbf to 13.5 lbf.

A packaging film comprises an outer layer formed of a heat-scalable polymer. A polyolefin-based sealant layer laminated to an interior facing surface of the outer layer. A varnish coating layer is disposed on an exterior facing surface of the outer layer, the varnish coating layer configured to impart a tactile feel of paper to the outer layer.

A paper-based packaging structure comprises an outer paper ply, a first intermediate paper ply, and an inner polymer film ply. A first adhesive layer secures the inner polymer film ply to the intermediate paper ply. A second adhesive layer secures the intermediate paper ply to the outer paper ply. The outer paper ply, the intermediate paper ply, and the inner polymer film ply are adjoined to form a multiwall structure wherein the paper-based packaging structure comprises cellulosic fiber in the range of from about 80% to about 99% by weight. In further aspects methods of forming the packaging structure and packaging articles are provided. In a further aspect, a packaging article formed of the packaging structure is provided.
