The present disclosure provides an aerosol source member and an aerosol delivery device that includes an aerosol source member. The aerosol source member includes a segmented substrate portion that includes a first substrate segment and a second substrate segment. The first substrate segment includes a first aerosol former, the second substrate segment includes a second aerosol former different from the first aerosol former, and the second substrate segment is positioned between the first substrate segment and a downstream end of the aerosol source member. The first substrate segment and the second substrate segment are configured such that when heated by a heat source, the first substrate segment is heated to a first temperature and the second substrate segment is heated to a second temperature that is less than the first temperature.

The present disclosure is directed to a holder for use with a removable substrate cartridge. In one implementation, the holder comprises a main body, an inner sleeve configured to move relative to the main body, and an actuating element configured to slide the inner sleeve to and from a retracted position, in which an outer surface of the inner sleeve is not visible, and a use position, in which the inner sleeve protects an inserted cartridge. In another implementation, the holder comprises a main body, a receiving member located within the main body, and a spring-loaded latch mechanism. The latch mechanism may be configured to actuate the receiving member to and from a loading position, a use position, and an ejecting position.

The present disclosure provides a consumable for generating an aerosol, the consumable including an aerosol-generating segment and a mouth-end segment, each of the aerosol-generating segment and the mouth-end segment including one or more circumscribing wrapping materials, wherein at least one circumscribing wrapping material has a longitudinal edge adapted for sealing the circumscribing wrapping material, and wherein the at least one circumscribing wrapping material includes a coating comprising a sensate spaced from the longitudinal edge. The present disclosure also provides a consumable including an aerosol-generating segment and a mouth-end segment, each of the aerosol-generating segment and the mouth-end segment comprising one or more circumscribing wrapping materials, and wherein at least one circumscribing wrapping material includes a coating comprising a sensate mixed with a carrier material.

A smoking article is provided and has opposed lighting and mouth ends. A mouth end portion is disposed at the mouth end and a heat generation portion is disposed about the lighting end. An outer wrapping material is wrapped at least about the heat generation portion and extends toward the mouth end portion, to define a cylindrical rod. An aerosol-generating portion is disposed within the outer wrapping material and between the heat generation and mouth end portions. The aerosol-generating portion is configured to generate an aerosol in response to heat received from the heat generation portion. Heat from the heat generation portion for aerosol formation is provided by igniting a combustible fuel element (e.g., a plurality of parts or pieces of clean burning carbonaceous material) located within an enclosed heat generation cartridge.

The present disclosure provides an aerosol source member and an aerosol delivery device that includes an aerosol source member. The aerosol source member includes a segmented substrate portion that includes a first substrate segment and a second substrate segment. The first substrate segment includes a first aerosol former, the second substrate segment includes a second aerosol former different from the first aerosol former, and the second substrate segment is positioned between the first substrate segment and a downstream end of the aerosol source member. A smoking article includes a mouth end portion in fluid communication with an aerosol generating cartridge. The cartridge includes an enclosure configured to receive an aerosol precursor therein, with the aerosol precursor being configured to generate an aerosol in response to heat. At least a portion of the enclosure is permeable such that the aerosol precursor is retained within the enclosure while the aerosol formed from the aerosol precursor is released from the enclosure through the permeable portion upon heating of the enclosure or the aerosol precursor therein.

The present disclosure is directed to a holder for use with a removable substrate cartridge. In one implementation, the holder comprises a main body, an inner sleeve configured to move relative to the main body, and an actuating element configured to slide the inner sleeve to and from a retracted position, in which an outer surface of the inner sleeve is not visible, and a use position, in which the inner sleeve protects an inserted cartridge. In another implementation, the holder comprises a main body, a receiving member located within the main body, and a spring-loaded latch mechanism. The latch mechanism may be configured to actuate the receiving member to and from a loading position, a use position, and an ejecting position.

Disclosed is an aerosol delivery device for use with removable and replaceable cartridges. The device includes a holder defining a proximal end and a distal end and a receiving chamber configured to receive the removable cartridge including an ignitable heat source. The holder defines a first aerosol passageway extending therethrough. The device includes a mouthpiece coupled to the holder and defining a second aerosol passageway extending therethrough and a pair of static ignitor contacts disposed proximate the receiving chamber and oriented to contact the ignitable heat source when the removable cartridge is secured within the receiving chamber. The device may include an access door movably coupled to the holder and configured to provide access to the receiving chamber in an open configuration and secure the cartridge for ignition when in a closed configuration.

The present disclosure is directed to an aerosol delivery device and a holder for use with a removable substrate cartridge. In one implementation, the holder includes a main body, a power source, and a lighter portion. The main body defines an aerosol passageway, a proximal end and a distal end, and a receiving chamber configured to receive a substrate cartridge. The power source is located in the main body and is configured to power the lighter portion. The lighter portion is configured to ignite an ignitable heat source of the substrate cartridge and is integral with the main body.

The present disclosure is directed to an aerosol delivery device and a holder for use with a removable substrate cartridge. The removable cartridge comprises an ignitable heat source and a substrate portion that includes a substrate material having an aerosol precursor composition configured to form an aerosol upon application of heat thereto. The holder includes a main body defining a receiving chamber configured to receive the substrate cartridge, a power source, and an inductive heating assembly. A least a portion of the inductive heating assembly is integral with the main body and is configured to ignite the ignitable heat source and to heat at least a portion of the substrate material.
