Scheduling full-duplex transmissions includes configuring adjacent time slots of an air interface resource with different ratios of uplink portions, downlink portions, and flexible portions, scheduling transmissions in each adjacent time slot based on whether or not the transmissions are latency-sensitive or delay-sensitive or control transmissions. The uplink portions, downlink portions, and flexible portions comprise symbols within time slots of a subframe, and can vary based on a numerology. The flexible portions are symbols configured to simultaneously transmit uplink data and downlink data.

Methods and systems for preventing or delaying handovers to target access nodes that have limited carrier aggregation capabilities, in dual-connectivity (EN-DC) wireless networks, by adjusting handover thresholds to delay the handover of the wireless device to the target access node, for wireless devices reporting high uplink buffer sizes.

5G relay nodes attached to millimeter wave carriers (whether standalone or EN-DC) may suffer from poor quality of service due to intermodulation distortion at the donor access node. The relay node is instructed to attach to a lower-frequency carrier, or a different donor access node. The lower-frequency carrier can include another 5G carrier deployed by the same donor access node, or a 4G carrier or any other carrier.

Prioritizing resource allocation for relay nodes that have higher bandwidth capabilities, such as 5G EN-DC, versus other relay nodes that do not have such capabilities. The bandwidth capability can be based on a channel bandwidth allocation for different relay nodes, with the assumption that 5G or higher relay nodes will be able to utilize higher bandwidth channels.

A system may include an access node to deploy a radio air interface to provide wireless services to one or more wireless devices. The access node may include processing circuitry. The processing circuitry of the access node may monitor an amount of packet drops at a shared network device of a dual connectivity access-node-pair. The processing circuitry of the access node may dynamically adjust one or more handover parameters based on the amount of packet drops at the shared network device. The handover parameters may be adjusted to inhibit handovers to the dual connectivity access-node-pair.

Performing MU-MIMO in a wireless communication network based on determining that a load level of a sector deployed by an access node is below a load threshold, determining that one or more signal conditions within the sector meet a signal threshold, and disabling a MU-MIMO operating mode for wireless devices within the sector. The signal conditions can include current or historical signal conditions. An exemplary current signal condition includes an interference or other signal metric of the at least two wireless devices different by a threshold amount.

A method of initiating handover of a wireless device includes determining one or more of a low battery condition, a low power headroom, and a high buffer status of a wireless device. The wireless device can be attached to a first access node deploying multiple radio access technologies over a first coverage area. The method further includes identifying a second access node deploying a single radio access technology over a second coverage area encompassing a location of the wireless device, and initiating handover of the wireless device from the first access node to the second access node based at least in part on the one or more of the low battery condition, low power headroom, and high buffer status of the wireless device. Systems and methods are provided for dynamically changing a channel state information (CSI) reporting protocol by adjusting CSI reporting frequency for a wireless device communicating with an access node within a wireless network. The methods and systems identify a power headroom (PHR) value at a particular wireless device and adjust the CSI reporting frequency when the PHR satisfies a predetermined threshold. The method changes the CSI reporting frequency for the wireless device to enable more frequent CSI reporting over a primary path to the access node to facilitate reallocation of resources.

Methods and systems for adjusting reference signal reporting based on path loss and fading and cell edge conditions experienced by wireless devices in 5G EN-DC networks. As the path loss increases, a period between reference signal reports (or a frequency of reference signal reports) can be increased. This ensures continued quality of service for the wireless devices. Reference signals can include SRS, DMRS, PTRS, etc.

A system for updating a preferred nodes list for a wireless device in a wireless network includes a server in communication with a plurality of nodes each configured to deploy a radio air interface to provide wireless services to wireless devices. The server includes a processor configured to instruct, in response to a trigger, a first node to send a message to a wireless device connected to the first node. The message instructs the wireless device to contact the server for an updated preferred nodes list. The processor receives a request for the updated preferred nodes list from the wireless device and provides the updated preferred nodes list to the wireless device. The updated preferred nodes list enables the wireless device to change from connecting to the first node included in the preferred nodes list to connecting to a second node included in the updated preferred nodes list.
