A can shell includes a center panel, an inclined panel wall extending at a downward angle from the center panel, and a looped countersink formed around the inclined panel wall, the looped countersink starting at an inverted point of the inclined panel wall and looping around to an outer countersink wall, wherein the inverted point is proximate to the outer countersink wall.

A pusher assembly for use in forming a can body includes a pusher ram having a first end and an opposite second end. The pusher assembly also includes a number of cam followers positioned at or about the first end of the pusher ram for following a cam profile. The pusher assembly further includes a push pad coupled to the second end of the pusher ram, the push pad having a contact surface structured to engage the can body. The contact surface of the push pad includes a ceramic material.

An adjustable pusher arrangement for use in performing a forming and/or cutting operation on a can body. The arrangement includes a linear motion guide having a rail member and a slider block slidingly coupled to the rail member so as to be readily translatable along the rail member. The arrangement further includes a pusher assembly having a pusher ram positioned on, and adjustably coupled to the slider block via one or more jack bolts and one or more lock bolts. Each lock bolt is rotatable among a locked positioning and an unlocked positioning. A positioning of the pusher ram relative to the slider block is adjustable by rotating the number of jack bolts relative to the pusher ram when each lock bolt is in the unlocked positioning, and the positioning is fixable by rotating each lock bolt to the locked positioning.

An arrangement for necking a can body includes a necking die having a cylindrical inner surface and an inwardly tapered surface positioned about a longitudinal axis. The cylindrical surface extends from an outer opening of the die to the tapered surface, and the tapered surface extends from the cylindrical surface to a central opening. One or both of the cylindrical surface and/or the tapered surface is structured to sealingly engage an open first end of a can body. The arrangement also includes a projecting member sealingly engaged with the necking die and extending from the central opening outward from the die along the longitudinal axis. The projecting member is sized and configured to extend a predetermined distance into an interior volume of a can body sealingly engaged with the one or both of the cylindrical surface and/or the tapered surface of the necking die.

A can decorator includes a plate cylinder shaft, a plate cylinder structured to be installed on the plate cylinder shaft, and a plate cylinder locking and unlocking mechanism structured to selectively lock the plate cylinder to the plate cylinder shaft such that the plate cylinder shaft and plate cylinder rotate in conjunction and to selectively unlock the plate cylinder from the plate cylinder shaft such that the plate cylinder shaft and plate cylinder do not rotate in conjunction and the plate cylinder is permitted to be removed from the plate cylinder shaft. The plate cylinder locking and unlocking mechanism uses at least one of pneumatic, magnetic, and mechanical power to selectively lock and unlock the plate cylinder.

A can end includes a panel formed in the can end. The panel includes a perimeter spaced inwardly from an outer periphery of the can end. A score is formed in the panel. The score is spaced inwardly from the outer periphery. The panel includes a cent bead extending upwardly from the can end. The score is located on one side of the cent bead. An imaginary axis extends through a center of the can end and evenly divides the cent bead. A distance between the outer periphery of the panel and the score along the imaginary axis is greater than 0.080 inch.

A can end includes a rivet button extending upward from the can end. The rivet button includes a head with a rounded profile. The rounded profile includes a plurality of curvatures. Each curvature has a distinct radius of curvature. The plurality of curvatures assists in forming the rivet button into a rivet.

A can end includes a bubble extending upward from a central panel of the can end. The bubble has a head and a periphery concentrically disposed around the head. The periphery defines a relieved portion and a non-relieved portion. The non-relieved portion is coined while the relieved portion is less coined, resulting in the relieved portion has a greater thickness than the non-relieved portion.

A can end includes a main score forming in an arcuate pattern on an upper surface of the can end. The main score defines a tear panel. An anti-fracture score is disposed parallel and contiguous with the main score. The residual thickness of material after scoring ranges between 0.0045 and 0.0057 inch.
