Described herein are systems and apparatuses for enhanced comfort through contact pressure reduction. In particular, the systems and apparatuses disclosed herein prevent or otherwise mitigate pressure by actively orienting a patient over an anatomy-specific pressure-mitigating contact surface on which the patient rests. A pressure-mitigating contact portion of the contact surface includes a plurality of independently pressurized chambers configured in a specific geometric pattern that is designed to mitigate contact pressure between a support surface (e.g., bed or chair) and a specific anatomic region of a patient's body when the specific anatomic region of the patient's body is oriented over an epicenter of the geometric pattern. Additionally, a plurality of elevated side support portions and a wedge interconnected on the base material are configured to actively orient the specific anatomic region of the patient's body over the epicenter of the geometric pattern.

Introduced here are pressure-mitigation systems (or simply “systems”) that are designed to manage the flow of fluid into pressurizable devices, each of which includes at least one inflatable chamber. A pressure-mitigation system can include a controller device (or simply “controller”) that can be fluidically coupled to pressurizable devices via separate fluid interfaces. Notably, the controller may be able to independently manage the flow of fluid through these fluid interfaces. Accordingly, the controller may cause the chambers of a first pressurizable device to be controllably inflated in accordance with a first programmed pattern and cause the chambers of a second pressurizable device to be controllably inflated in accordance with a second programmed pattern.

Introduced here are pressure-mitigation devices having improved adaptability or customizability to specific patients. An example pressure-mitigation device features modularity and dynamic usage of a number of individual chamber devices that can be assembled for a given body size, a given environment or substrate, and/or the like. Each modular chamber device includes at least one inflatable chamber and is configured for independent inflation and/or deflation of its at least one inflatable chamber. A set of modular chamber devices arranged (and attached) together can be operated in concert to provide a pressure-mitigation treatment for a body disposed atop and across the set of modular chamber devices.

Introduced here are pressure-mitigation devices having improved stabilization and reduced slippage when in use. Pressure-mitigation devices can be configured to directly fit and/or fasten to substrates that support whole human bodies or parts of human bodies. As an example, a pressure-mitigation device can be incorporated into a fitted mattress cover that fits a mattress. Other example embodiments include pressure-mitigation mattress sheets, cushion sleeves, pillow covers, and/or the like. According to some embodiments, pressure-mitigation devices are directly incorporated into a substrate. As an example, a pressure-mitigation device can be directly incorporated as an upper layer of a cushion or mattress. Together, the pressure-mitigation upper layer and other cushioning layers (e.g., transition layers, coil or spring bases, comfort layers, support layers) can form an integrated and unitary pressure-mitigation substrate. The pressure-mitigation substrate can be directly used as (or wholly replace) a seat cushion, a wheelchair cushion, a bed mattress, and/or the like.
