A wearable blood pressure meter includes a semi-conformable bladder, serving as a reservoir for an incompressible fluid, and a pressure sensor. The semi-conformable bladder includes a rigid housing defining a cavity within which the incompressible fluid is rigidly constrained and an elastic membrane for elastically constraining the incompressible fluid. The elastic membrane extends across an aperture into the cavity through the rigid housing. The elastic membrane conforms to a body part at the aperture when pressed against the body part. The pressure sensor mechanically couples to the incompressible fluid to measure pressure signals emanating from an artery within the body part and which propagate through the conformable membrane and the incompressible fluid to the pressure sensor.

Systems and methods for analyzing a blood volume signal are described. In an example, the method comprises extracting self-normalized features from blood volume signals within a signal window; generating a signal quality prediction based on the self-normalized features to provide a quality prediction score, wherein the quality prediction score is between an upper bound and a lower bound; and generating a health metric score based on the blood volume signals in the signal window if the quality prediction score is above a predetermined threshold. In an example, the blood volume signals are photoplethysmography (PPG) signals. In an example, the method includes identifying a signal quality issue if the quality prediction score is below the predetermined threshold.

Apparatuses, machine-accessible storage media, and methods for noninvasively measuring a heart performance metric, such as left ventricular filling pressure, are described. In an embodiment, the apparatus includes a housing shaped to be grasped by a hand; a tower protruding from a surface of the housing positioned to conform to a finger of the hand when grasping the housing; a tactile sensor disposed on a curved surface of the tower and adapted to measure blood pressure pulsatility in a digital artery of the finger and output pulsatility signals indicative of the blood pressure pulsatility; a graphical user interface for orchestrating a test of the performance metric of the heart and displaying results of the test.

A technique of estimating a continuous heart rate of a subject includes acquiring pulsatility data indicative of a cardiac cycle of the subject and motion data indicative of a motion of the subject. Frequency transformations are performed on the pulsatility and motion data over discrete windows of temporal length T to generate a set of windowed spectra. The discrete windows are temporally overlapping and each temporally offset from one another. Heart rate values, each corresponding to one of the windowed spectra, are output using a processing pipeline including one or more neural networks trained to collectively output one of the heart rate values for each windowed spectra. The continuous heart rate is estimated based upon a set of the heart rate values from the discrete windows that are temporally overlapping.

In some embodiments, a computer-implemented method of measuring heart rate analytics using raw photoplethysmography (PPG) data is provided. A computing system determines a plurality of frequency peaks in the raw PPG data using a Fourier analysis. The computing system determines a plurality of selected frequency peaks from the plurality of frequency peaks. For each selected frequency peak of the plurality of selected frequency peaks, the computing system creates filtered PPG data by applying a frequency of the selected frequency peak as a high-pass filter to the raw PPG data; detects diastole peaks and systole valleys in the filtered PPG data; and performs one or more pulse quality checks on the detected diastole peaks and systole valleys. The computing system uses diastole peaks and systole valleys associated with a lowest selected frequency peak that passed the pulse quality checks to determine a heart rate analytic measurement.

Systems and methods are provided for continuously monitoring a user to determine when cardiovascular events are likely occurring and to responsively provide a prompt to a user to engage in additional physiological assessment of the putative cardiovascular event. Additional assessment can include the user engaging an additional sensor to provide signals that are more accurate, lower noise, or otherwise improved relative to a continuously-monitoring sensor used to initially detect the cardiovascular event. Detection of cardiovascular events includes using a cardiovascular classifier to determine, based on the output of such a continuously-monitoring sensor, whether the event is likely occurring. Such a classifier can be received from a cloud computing service or other remote system based on sensor outputs sent to such a system. Use of such a classifier can facilitate reduced false-positive detection of cardiovascular events based on the continuously-monitoring sensor, and thus reduce extraneous prompts to the user.

A finger wearable device for monitoring vital signs at a finger includes a housing, a finger cuff, a plurality of vital sign sensors, and an electrocardiogram (ECG) sensor. The housing includes an interface surface for pressing against the finger. The finger cuff attaches to the housing and has a size and a shape to secure the housing to the finger and force the interface surface against the finger when the finger cuff is worn around the finger. The vital sign sensors are disposed in or on the housing and orientated to measure the vital signs from the finger of a wearer. The ECG sensor is disposed in or on the housing and coupled to first and second electrodes to measure ECG signals. The second electrode is disposed on the interface surface.

Wearable devices are described herein including a housing and a mount configured to mount a contact surface of the housing to an external surface of a wearer. The wearable devices further include a coil disposed in the housing proximate to the contact surface and at least one sensor disposed on the contact surface and configured to detect one or more properties of the body of the wearer. The wearable devices are powered by a rechargeable battery disposed within the wearable devices. The wearable devices additionally include a recharger disposed within the wearable devices and configured to recharge the rechargeable battery using electromagnetic energy received by the coil. The sensor is disposed within a central portion of the contact surface enclosed by the coil.

Various examples are described for detecting heart rate and respiratory rate by using measurements of light applied to skin through an article. For example, a sensor application obtains a set of measurements of light. The application compensates for a contribution of the article based on one or more known optical properties of the article. The sensor application further determines, from the set of measurements of light, a periodic change in amplitude. The sensor application identifies the periodic change in amplitude as a heart rate having an identical periodicity. The sensor application identifies a respiratory rate as equal to the rate of change of the heart rate.

One disclosed example method includes receiving sensor data from a biosensor; determining an event using a first analysis based on the sensor data, the first analysis having a first power cost; determining to perform a second analysis based on the event; in response to determining to perform the second analysis, performing the second analysis based on the sensor data, the second analysis having a second power cost greater than the first power cost; and wirelessly transmitting results of the second analysis to a remote device.
