A system and method for sorting and recovery of materials in a combination of a plastics processing facility (PPF) and a plastics recovery or recycling facility (PRF) is provided. The system can include a first line comprising a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) processing line, a second line comprising a polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP) and polystyrene (PS) processing line, a third line comprising a plastics residuals recovery line, a fourth line comprising a fines and glass residue processing line, and a fifth line comprising a flexible plastic packaging processing line. The first line, the second line, the third line, the fourth line and the fifth line can all be located in close co-operational proximity on the same physical footprint and at the same site to process recovered plastics thus creating economies of scale and efficiency while meeting or exceeding minimum material quality specifications.

A system and method for collecting and standardizing data related to the management of waste and recyclable materials are provided. The system and method can be utilized to aggregate, analyze, display and distribute relevant sustainability decision support models, data and metrics. The system and method can also include collecting, converting and standardizing of waste and/or recycling data and developing sustainability decision models and reporting.

Systems and methods are provided for using video/still images captured by continuously recording optical sensors mounted on waste collection vehicles used in in the waste collection, disposal and recycling industry for operational and customer service related purposes. Optical sensors are integrated into the in-cab monitor as well as the onboard computer, digital video recorder and other external devices.

A system and process for sorting and recovery of recyclable materials, and in particular, sorting and recovery of recyclable materials from mixed waste comprising municipal solid waste in a materials recovery facility or “MRF” are provided. Advanced technology and machinery are integrated into a multi-step system and process that are designed to treat contaminated MSW streams to meet or exceed minimum material quality specifications while also reducing and minimizing headcount of sorter personnel. Because the mix of materials in MSW can be so varied and unpredictable, the system and process are designed to effectively sort and recover desired materials from MSW streams having a variety of material compositions.

A system and method for removing PFAS from residual waste streams generated during the processing of landfill liquids prior to disposal are provided. An example of a landfill liquid is leachate. Landfill leachate can contain dissolved or entrained environmentally harmful substances such as PFAS and other emerging contaminant micro-constituents that may enter the environment if not properly treated. The presently disclosed system and method can improve the removal of PFAS and other emerging contaminant micro-constituents in landfill leachate and/or landfill impacted liquids including stormwater and contaminated groundwater.

An apparatus for centralized housing and operation of RFID components for a waste and/or recycling service vehicle is provided. The apparatus centralizes most or all the functional RFID-related components on a waste or recycling service vehicle. The vehicle can be equipped with RFID technology such as readers, antennas, processors, power modules (with or without batteries), cellular modems, and other related components that are bundled into a single RFID hub located on or within the vehicle.

A system and method for managing drivers of waste service vehicles using a route manager daily assistance (RMDA) computer-based platform are provided. The computer-based platform can assist a route manager, on a routine or even daily basis if desired, with onboarding, developing and coaching drivers of waste or recycling service vehicles, as well as improving safety, enhancing customer service, and delivering greater efficiency and savings. The software-based platform utilizes a dashboard display that defines key metrics and makes various tasks and data visible to the route manager for ease of route planning, coaching and daily execution.

A system and method for vehicle drive path analysis for a waste/recycling service vehicle are provided. The system and method can enable identifying of the customers and/or container locations for waste and recycling collection routes using vehicle drive path analysis. Some non-limiting properties that can be derived from the analysis include the customer location, address of customers, and/or the locations of containers at the customer location.

A system and method for generating electricity and heat from the combustion of tail gas containing biogenic methane using a gas turbine are provided. A gas turbine can generate electricity and heat from process tail gases (comprising biomethane, but also comprising fixed gases such as carbon dioxide, nitrogen, oxygen, hydrogen, carbon monoxide, as well as trace gases) as a secondary fuel while using natural gas as the primary fuel in the gas turbine. The tail gases from biogenic methane purification processes can have heating values as low as 42 BTU/SCF. The gas turbine will reduce net energy consumption, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and reduce operating costs for biogenic methane purification processes. The gas turbine can also destroy tail gases that would otherwise cause excessive air emissions without the use of pollution control equipment (such as a thermal oxidizer or flare).
