A decorative item including a base, a motor mounted to the base, and a pop-up assembly coupled to the motor. The motor is operable to rotate the pop-up assembly with respect to the base. The pop-up assembly is movable between a collapsed position, in which the pop-up assembly is generally two-dimensional, and an expanded position, in which at least a portion of the pop-up assembly is generally three-dimensional, extends outward from the base, and occupies a volume of space adjacent the base. The decorative item may be a greeting card or any other suitable item intended to be gifted to a recipient.

A playback device includes a speaker, a processor, one or more memories, a set of scene presentations stored in the memories (where each scene presentation is related to each other by a common situational context), an near-field reader configured to identify a plurality of character objects (where each character object is identifiable by a near-field tag); and embodied computer-executable instructions that, when executed, cause one or more scene presentations to be presented based on which character objects are within a proximity of the playback device.

A three-dimensional decorative object having a base, a speaker coupled to the base, and an ornamental component. The ornamental component has a first portion that is coupled to the base, and a second portion that is movably coupled to the first portion. The second portion is positioned adjacent the speaker. A third portion may be movably coupled to the first portion and the second portion. The base may have a housing and a guide coupled to the housing. The second portion may slidably couple to the guide and be configured to move relative to the first portion when the speaker vibrates.

A jig for placement of an insert sheet on a greeting card is disclosed. The jig comprises a support surface configured to support the greeting card. The jig further comprises a guide configured for movement between an open position and a closed position, wherein the guide enables placement of the greeting card at a predetermined location on the support surface when the guide is in the open position, and wherein the guide provides a template for placement of the insert sheet at a designated location on the greeting card when the guide is in the closed position.

An improvised book is provided and method for electronically determining a page location in the book. The book can include a body, a first page having a first hole that is covered by a first film that limits an amount of light that can pass through the first hole, a second page having a second hole that is aligned with the first hole and that is covered by a second film that limits an amount of light that can pass through the first hole, and an electronic light-reactive (“LR”) sensor disposed below the first and second holes that is useable to facilitate determining whether the book is opened to the first page or second page based on an amount of light reaching the LR sensor.

A pocket card having a first sheet with a first peripheral edge and a second sheet with a second peripheral edge. The first and second sheets are coupled to each other at least at two spaced apart locations along respective lengths of the first and second peripheral edges to form a pocket positioned between the first and second sheets. The pocket is accessible from at least one opening positioned at a location where the first and second sheets are not coupled together. The first peripheral edge has a different shape than the second peripheral edge.

A light-reactive gifting system includes, in one embodiment, an illumination device adapted to emit UV light, an ornamental attachment attached to or that forms at least a portion of the flat top of the illumination device, paper that includes a first light-reactive component that reacts to the UV light and is characterized by having a first visual appearance when not reflecting the UV light and a second visual appearance when reflecting the UV light, and an attachment mechanism that is useable to attach the illumination device to the paper thereby enabling the UV light to be cast in the direction of the paper and causing each of the first and second visual appearances based on activating or deactivating the UV LEDs.

An aspect of the present invention includes an improved greeting card useable in connection with method for transferring a gift using a gift-transfer application. A digital gift can be associated with a unique tag identifier on a gift item, and the unique tag identifier can be used to retrieve the digital gift. Specifically, the method includes associating the unique tag identifier with an electronic gift of a particular monetary value and using a payment portal to charge a financial account an amount equal to the monetary value. The method further includes the gift-transfer application receiving a request including the unique tag identifier to redeem the electronic gift and, in response, sending a plurality of value-allocation links along with respective options for applying the monetary value to an electronic gift card of a respective merchant.
