A method for providing an instant messaging service is disclosed. When a target chat room that includes an unread message of a user account exists among one or more chat rooms in which the user account joins, a user terminal displays, on a chat room list screen, a graphic object indicating a target account that transmitted the unread message in an area corresponding to the target chat room. The method may further include displaying an icon indicating a topic of a thread including the unread message and providing summary information of the unread thread before the user enters the chat room. The disclosed method enhances user awareness of unread communications and related topics across multiple chat rooms within an instant messaging service.

A user terminal includes a display, at least one processor having processing circuitry, and a memory storing instructions. When executed, the instructions cause the user terminal to display a first chat room screen corresponding to a first chat room in which the user account and another user account participate. On the first chat room screen, the terminal obtains a query message input through a second chat room established between the user account and a virtual object assigned to the user account. Based on a response message generated using at least one message transmitted through the first chat room, the terminal displays the response message through the second chat room. The configuration allows the user to interact with the virtual object within the context of the first chat room, providing a private communication layer that utilizes prior chat data to generate contextually relevant responses.

The method may include obtaining information about a time zone of a sending target of a scheduled message. The method may include setting a sending time of the scheduled message based on the information about the time zone of the sending target. A method and apparatus for an instant messaging service are disclosed. A method of displaying a message, performed by a terminal, includes receiving chat bubble data for the message from a server, identifying, based on the chat bubble data, an action of a user with respect to the message, and updating a display of the message based on the identified action and the chat bubble data.

A server including a processor configured to receive a message generation request for a chatroom from a user terminal and to initiate generation of at least one candidate message by inputting a source message, transmitted and received through the chatroom, into a message generating model. When information indicating a text input in an input box of the chatroom is received from the user terminal before the generation of the at least one candidate message is completed, the processor stops the generation of the at least one candidate message. A messaging service method and apparatus are disclosed. An operating method of a terminal on which an application for a messaging service is installed includes displaying a keyword of a first type in a chat interface, wherein the keyword of the first type is detected from a text input into a message input window of the chat interface in a first input mode, based on a request corresponding to a keyword of a second type detected from the text, changing an input mode of the chat interface to a second input mode, and in response to the input mode being changed, replacing displaying of the keyword of the first type with displaying of an interfacing object corresponding to the keyword of the second type.

Disclosed are a server providing an instant messaging service and an operating method of the server. The operating method of the server providing the instant messaging service, according to one embodiment, may include: determining, based on status information of a drive of an administrator of a first-type chat room and public backup setting information of the chat room, whether to enable public data corresponding to the chat room; when the public data is enabled, storing chat data sent and received within the chat room as the public data in the drive of the administrator; and providing the public data to a terminal of a participant in the chat room.
