SIG Services AG

SIG Services AG's patent strategy reveals a strong, albeit consolidating, focus on its core "Containers & Packaging" sector, which constitutes 53.5% of its portfolio, despite a significant -60.0% decline in patenting activity so far in 2026. Surprisingly, while "Plastics Shaping & Molding" and "Packaging Machines" show declining trends, "Layered Products (Laminates, Films)" emerged as a rapidly growing focus in 2025 with a +66.7% YoY increase, indicating a strategic shift towards advanced material science within its packaging solutions, even though 2026 data is partial.

Pouring Element for a Composite Package with a Cutting Element for the First Opening of the Composite Package and a Package Provided with Such a Pouring Element

Filed:2024-03-06Pub:2026-04-30
Applicant:SIG Services AG

Described and illustrated is a pouring element for a composite package. The pouring element includes a main body with a hollow cylindrical spout and a flange arranged at an axial end of the spout; a hollow cylindrical cutting element, guided in a movable manner in the spout, with at least one cutting tooth for opening the composite package; and a reclosable screw cap, which, when the composite package is initially opened, serves to drive the cutting element; wherein the main body, the spout, the cutting element, and the screw cap are arranged concentrically about a vertical axis and wherein the outer hollow cylinder wall of the cutting element has a screw thread, which serves as a movable guide in the spout. In order to design and further develop known pouring elements such that the forces necessary to assemble the cutting element and main body can be decreased and that the force for assembly can be reduced to prevent possible damage to parts due to high forces, the inner hollow cylinder wall of the spout has at least one internal thread having a lower thread section and an upper thread section, the upper thread section of the internal thread has a radially reduced average thread height compared to the lower thread section, and the lower thread section spans half a turn of helix rotation of the at least one internal thread on the axial end of the spout where the flange is arranged.

Resealable dispensing element for a cardboard/plastic composite package with a screw cap attached to it and method for mounting a screw cap

Filed:2023-07-18Pub:2026-02-17
Applicant:SIG Services AG

A resealable dispensing element for a composite package is shown and described including a main body with a flange and a hollow cylindrical spout with at least one outer thread, an opening means guided movably in the spout for opening the composite package and a resealable screw cap, having an anchor ring. The screw cap serves to drive the opening means when the composite package is opened for the first time and wherein the screw cap and the anchor ring are connected by a plurality of breakable material bridges or at least by a material anchorage for connection to the main body. The main body on the spout has at least one circumferential web for securely holding the anchor ring and wherein the anchor ring has on its inside a circumferential retaining web shaped such that it corresponds with the circumferential web, as well as a method for mounting the screw cap for such a dispensing element. In order to reliably rule out tilting of the anchor ring during the mounting process of the dispensing element, it is provided that the main body has a plurality of vertical guide ribs arranged distributed over the circumference on the spout between the outer thread and the circumferential web for uniformly stretching the anchor ring when the screw cap is applied during the mounting of the dispensing element.

Flat-shaped composite material, package sleeve and package with trapezoidal gable

Filed:2020-10-21Pub:2026-02-03
Applicant:SIG Services AG

A flat-shaped composite material is represented and described for manufacturing a package, including: a polymer outer layer, a polymer inner layer, a fibrous support layer, which is arranged between the polymer outer layer and the polymer inner layer. The flat-shaped composite material has a plurality of fold lines, which are arranged and designed such that a closed package can be manufactured by folding the flat-shaped composite material along the fold lines and by connecting seam surfaces of the flat-shaped composite material and a sleeve surface. The sleeve surface includes a front surface, a first side surface, a second side surface, a first rear surface and a second rear surface, and base surfaces. The base surfaces include triangular base surfaces and quadrangular base surfaces and gable surfaces. The gable surfaces include triangular gable surfaces and quadrangular gable surfaces. The base surfaces and the gable surfaces are arranged on opposite sides of the sleeve surface. In order to enable the manufacture of packages with even more complex geometries even in the gable and base region, at least one quadrangular gable surface is provided with two small gable surface angles, which are smaller than 90°, with two large gable surface angles, which are greater than 90°, and with an angle sum, which is greater than 360°. A package sleeve made of a composite material and a package manufactured from the composite material or from the package sleeve are also represented and described.

Sealing device and method for sealing equipment elements to workpieces by means of ultrasound

Filed:2022-09-26Pub:2026-01-20
Applicant:SIG Services AG

A sealing device for sealing equipment elements to workpieces, in particular in the form of a composite laminate, by means of ultrasound, with a sonotrode for generating an ultrasound, with a sealing surface for transmitting the ultrasound to the equipment element and/or the workpiece, with an anvil opposite the sonotrode and with an adjusting device for adjusting the sonotrode. The anvil relative to one another from an open position for at least partial inserting of the equipment element. The workpiece into a sealing gap between the sonotrode and the anvil into a closed position for at least partially pressing the workpiece. The equipment element between the sealing surface of the sonotrode and the anvil during ultrasonic sealing and back. In order to prevent damage and leakiness in workpieces such as packaging laminates, for example in the area of crease lines, by sealing equipment elements such as spouts to the workpieces or the packaging laminates by means of ultrasound, it is provided that at least one pair of mutually corresponding clamping means vibration-decoupled from the sealing surface is provided on opposite sides of the sealing gap for clamping the workpiece in the closed position. At least one pair of clamping means are provided outside the sealing surface as viewed in a direction along the sealing gap relative to the equipment element.
