SIG Services AG

SIG Services AG's patent strategy reveals a strong, albeit consolidating, focus on its core "Containers & Packaging" sector, which constitutes 53.5% of its portfolio, despite a significant -60.0% decline in patenting activity so far in 2026. Surprisingly, while "Plastics Shaping & Molding" and "Packaging Machines" show declining trends, "Layered Products (Laminates, Films)" emerged as a rapidly growing focus in 2025 with a +66.7% YoY increase, indicating a strategic shift towards advanced material science within its packaging solutions, even though 2026 data is partial.

Sheetlike Composite, Especially for Production of Dimensionally Stable Food and Drink Product Containers, Having a Roof Area Formed by a Multitude of Groove Lines Having Partly Convex Curvature

Filed:2024-09-05Pub:2024-12-26
Applicant:SIG Services AG

The present invention relates to a sheetlike composite comprising, as mutually superposed layers, a) a carrier layer, b) a barrier layer, and c) an inner polymer layer, wherein the sheetlike composite has a multitude of groove lines arranged and configured such that, by folding the sheetlike composite along the groove lines and joining seam areas of the sheetlike composite thereby obtaining seams, a closed container is obtainable, wherein the closed container has a roof area, wherein a first portion of the groove lines of the multitude of groove lines at least partly forms a circumference of a first part-area of the roof area, wherein the groove lines of the first portion, relative to the first part-area of the roof area, have at least partly convex curvature, wherein the first part-area of the roof area has a first length in a longitudinal direction and has a second length in a circumferential direction at right angles to the longitudinal direction, wherein a ratio of the first length to the second length is in a range from 0.2 to 2.0. The invention further relates to methods of producing a sheetlike composite, a container precursor and a closed container, and to the aforementioned method products; to a further container precursor; to a further closed container; and to a use of the sheetlike composite.

Flat-shaped composite material, package sleeve and package with curved edges

Filed:2020-10-21Pub:2024-11-12
Applicant:SIG Services AG

A flat-shaped composite material is represented and described for manufacturing a package, including: a polymer outer layer, a polymer inner layer, a fibrous support layer, which is arranged between the polymer outer layer and the polymer inner layer. The flat-shaped composite material has a plurality of fold lines, which are arranged and designed such that a closed package can be manufactured by folding the flat-shaped composite material along the fold lines and by connecting seam surfaces of the flat-shaped composite material and a sleeve surface. The sleeve surface includes a front surface, a first side surface, a second side surface, a first rear surface, a second rear surface, and base surfaces. The base surfaces include triangular base surfaces, quadrangular base surfaces, and gable surfaces. The gable surfaces include triangular gable surfaces and quadrangular gable surfaces. The base surfaces and the gable surfaces are arranged on opposite sides of the sleeve surface. The manufacture of packages with even more complex geometries without impairing the rigidity of the package should be achieved by a third sleeve fold line, which has a plurality of sections, which each adjoin a side surface and a rear surface, and of which at least one section is curved and of which at least one section is straight. A package sleeve made of a composite material and a package manufactured from the composite material or from the package sleeve are also represented and described.
